Septic Loans and Grants

Septic Upgrade Loan Program (SULP)

The septic upgrade loan program is offered through the Le Sueur County Environmental Services Department.  The loan is available to residential and commercial properties.  It was established to assist residents in replacing subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS) in Le Sueur County. The Ordinance (located below) permits Le Sueur County to administer loan funds and collect the repayment as a lien against the property in accordance with Minnesota Statute, Chapter 115, as amended.  The loan program may not be used to facilitate new building construction. Facilitate new building construction includes increasing capacity of a SSTS beyond what is reasonably required to serve existing buildings and lots in existing recorded plats.  Loan terms and requirements will differ for residential and commercial properties.

SSTS Low Income Grant (2026)

Le Sueur County has recently been awarded funds to help prevent, reduce, and eliminate pollutants in groundwater and surface water from subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS). The low-income grant program assists landowners with the financial costs that are required to design, install, repair, and replace a SSTS on residential property that has been deemed an imminent threat to public health or is failing to protect groundwater.

Please note grant funds for Fiscal Year 2026 are spoken for.  If you are interested in grant funds, staff can put you on a waiting list.  Le Sueur County intends to apply for funds for Fiscal Year 2027.  The County will not know if we are awarded grant funds until the Fall of 2026.
