Van Pick Up at Your Home
We are pleased to pick up those veterans who cannot drive to their local pick up destination due to health reasons, a lack of a driver’s license, or other reasons. If you are able to drive to your local pick up, we expect you to do so. This saves time and mileage, and we cannot pick up everyone at home. If we do pick you up at your residence, we expect you to be ready early.
Van Rules
When riding in the Veterans Service Van the following rules must be followed:
- Must obey the driver’s instructions
- No drinking of alcohol
- No illegal drugs
- No smoking in the van
- No use of foul language
- No weapons, including firearms and knifes
- Practice good personal hygiene
- Seat-belts must be worn at all times
Patient Appointments
We do not get notified by the VA or have access to your appointments at the VA.
We would appreciate it if you could schedule your appointments between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, just let the scheduler know that you ride our van and they are pretty helpful with getting appointments scheduled in that timeframe.
Please try not to schedule your appointments any time prior to 8:00 a.m. or we cannot guarantee arriving that early to the hospital.
Call us right away once you know about an upcoming appointment where you will be needing a ride.
If you have already scheduled a ride with the van and you receive notice that your appointment has been changed or canceled, notify us immediately!
Inclement Weather Conditions
The Veterans Service Officer and the driver are responsible for determining if the van will or will not make a scheduled trip, based on the weather. Passenger safety comes first. The driver, after consulting with the Veterans Service Officer, may determine inclement weather may create a safety hazard and decide to cancel the trip, or that mechanical problems require the scheduled trip to be cancelled.
The final decision to cancel the scheduled trip rests with the Veterans Service Officer. If a trip is canceled, the veterans will have their appointments canceled and rescheduled by the Veterans Service Office.
A decision by the driver to depart the Veterans Affairs Hospital prior to the completion of all appointments because of expected severe weather would be honored. The Veterans Service Office will assist in rescheduling of appointments.
Last Minute Ride
If you need a ride at the last minute, do not call the driver.
If you are not on the schedule to ride the van the driver's are not authorized to allow you to ride unless they have received approval.
